Bernays who was born on November 22, 1891 is a pioneer in the field of public relations and propaganda, and was referred to in his obituary as “the father of public relations”.

He was named one of the 100 most influential Americans of the 20th century by Life and was the subject of a full length biography in 1999. His best-known campaigns include a 1929 effort to promote female smoking by branding cigarettes as feminist “Torches of Freedom”. He worked for dozens of major American corporations including Procter & Gamble and General Electric, and for government agencies, politicians, and non-profit organizations.

Speaking on the decision to use the Global day of influence to pay homage to Bernays, Founder Global Day Of Influence, Ayeni Adekunle says Edward Bernays ‘‘did things during a very different time and even almost a century after, his work and reputation still inspire us. He was one of the first people in marketing communications to show the power of storytelling and the impact of using well thought out campaigns to turn heads.’’ ‘‘He was the father of influence.” said Ayeni.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][vc_tta_tabs style=”arden-03″ shape=”square” color=”primary” spacing=”5″ active_section=””][vc_tta_section i_position=”right” i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-angle-right” add_icon=”true” title=”Why Create Such A Day?” tab_id=”1605859399576-d426303b-26a4″][vc_column_text]We can’t compel or force people, companies and governments to be and do better. But as we enter the age of influence, there’s no better time to begin discussing and activating the resources that will drive us towards the kind of leadership we so badly need. The kind of direction we need for our lives, for our families, for our nations and for the world.

The Global Day of Influence has been put together to recognise the responsibility of those with influence, as well as to highlight and disincentivize the role played by impressionable audiences in promoting a circle of false narrative, skewed sentiments and negative influence.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][vc_tta_tabs style=”arden-03″ shape=”square” color=”primary” spacing=”5″ active_section=””][vc_tta_section i_position=”right” i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-angle-right” add_icon=”true” title=”What Recent Events Inspired This Day?” tab_id=”1605859435045-7962e060-5143″][vc_column_text]Following a series of events which has rocked the world in recent times, it has become imperative for all stakeholders to evaluate the power and potential of negative influence. Some of recent impacts of influence and its adverse effects include the rise in demonstrations against police brutality across the world and an uprise in suicide bombings over the last decade.

According to the U.S National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism, suicide bombing increased from an avergage of 4 per year in 2001, to over 400 per year by 2011, due to the precedent set by the 9/11 bombing. A more recent example of the power of misinformation and influence is the 2016 U.S election, as many investigations are still being carried out to determine the impact of false narratives in swaying the outcome.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][vc_tta_tabs style=”arden-03″ shape=”square” color=”primary” spacing=”5″ active_section=””][vc_tta_section i_position=”right” i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-angle-right” add_icon=”true” title=”Why Now?” tab_id=”1605859481734-316ade17-018f”][vc_column_text]According to the Statista, the average daily digital interactions per person stands at about 1,400, while in-person interactions is estimated to be around 25 for middle aged adults.

This means that humans are interacting more than we have in our entire history. The speed in which information travels is faster, and more impactful, hence measures must be put in place to ensure the right narratives are being spread.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][vc_tta_tabs style=”arden-03″ shape=”square” color=”primary” spacing=”5″ active_section=””][vc_tta_section i_position=”right” i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-angle-right” add_icon=”true” title=”About Global Day Of Influence” tab_id=”1605859511864-c2f2f27b-35e0″][vc_column_text]History often tells the story of how Hutu extremists carried out plans to wipe out the Tutsis. But how was a message of hate able to travel across the country, so much so that one man had no qualms in ending the life of his fellow countryman? And yet, the world continues to look away every day. Not only in Rwanda. But in Yemen, Congo, Myanmar, South Sudan, and even in Nigeria.

It’s not always conspicuous mass killings. Instead, many smaller attacks occur on a daily basis, and they’re largely ignored. It isn’t our fault that we have become pawns in this chess game, but while we may lack the power, we must never underestimate our will. We all have a duty to help people, companies and governments communicate more honestly and responsibly. Governments and organisations need to be more deliberate about what they say, when they say and how they say it. More importantly, we all must be willing to hold them accountable, with an understanding of the impact and influence that we have collectively. We can’t compel or force people to be and do better.

But as we enter the age of influence, there’s no better time to begin discussing and activating the resources that will drive us towards the kind of leadership we so badly need. The kind of direction we need for our lives, for our families, for our nations and for the world. It’s the reason the Global Day of Influence may be the single most important day in the year.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” background_color=”custom_color” custom_background_color=”#000000″ lg_spacing=”padding_top:20;padding_bottom:20″][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][tm_social_networks skin=”custom” align=”center” tooltip_enable=”” custom_style=”true” font_size=”16″ items=”%5B%7B%22title%22%3A%22Facebook%22%2C%22link%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fweb.facebook.com%2FGlobalDayOfInfluence%2F%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22fontawesome%22%2C%22icon_fontawesome%22%3A%22fa%20fa-facebook%22%2C%22icon_pe7stroke%22%3A%22pe-7s-album%22%2C%22icon_linea%22%3A%22icon-basic-accelerator%22%7D%2C%7B%22title%22%3A%22Instagram%22%2C%22link%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fwww.instagram.com%2F1nfluenceDay%2F%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22fontawesome%22%2C%22icon_fontawesome%22%3A%22fa%20fa-instagram%22%2C%22icon_pe7stroke%22%3A%22pe-7s-album%22%2C%22icon_linea%22%3A%22icon-basic-accelerator%22%7D%2C%7B%22title%22%3A%22Twitter%22%2C%22link%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2F1nfluenceDay%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22fontawesome%22%2C%22icon_fontawesome%22%3A%22fa%20fa-twitter%22%2C%22icon_pe7stroke%22%3A%22pe-7s-album%22%2C%22icon_linea%22%3A%22icon-basic-accelerator%22%7D%5D” centers=”true” custom_link_color=”#878a97″][vc_empty_space height=”10″][tm_heading custom_google_font=”” google_fonts=”font_family:Poppins%3A300%2Cregular%2C500%2C600%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” font_weight=”400″ align=”center” text_color=”custom_color” custom_text_color=”#878a97″ animation=”” text=”© Global Day Of Influence.
